Every Spoke Has Its Own Chart
The Functional Profile is just the surface. Each spoke opens into its own radar and each one is a deep dive at Firefly.
If you have ever looked up a player’s stats on the tour website, you have seen how modern golf analytics work. You start at the strokes gained radar, the overview of their game relative to the field. You then click into a category, say Driving because who doesn’t go straight driving, and a whole new radar opens up: driving distance, driving accuracy, strokes gained off the tee, distance from the edge of the fairway.
One chart becomes many. The strokes gained radar chart is a birds eye view. The deep dive into each section tells you what is actually going on.
In the last post, we introduced the Functional Profile: five spokes covering Power, Strength, Symmetry, Stability and Mobility each compared to the field. That is your body’s overview chart.
Here is what we did not show you yet. Every one of those spokes/sections opens up exactly the same way.
The overview asks the question. The deep dive answers it.
Power
Power is where clubhead speed is born and it is not just one number. Well ultimately it is, as in clubhead speed, however there is much more to it. We test it in three main regions, lower body, upper body, and core. We also add force plate data on lower body explosiveness and finish with a rotational test to see how you do when all regions are involved. Gaps between regions are energy leaks: power you produce but not efficiently or completely delivered to the club.

Strength
Strength is the engine behind power. We test upper body push, upper body pull and core, lower body, hip abduction and grip. One caveat, some of these tests are relative to bodyweight. A 200 pound golfer and a 150 pound golfer are never judged on the same absolute numbers.

Stability
Stability is control in the presence of change or potential change. VERY important. We are talking, balance, motor control in the upper and lower body, core and hip control, and rotary stability. There is a ton to review on this topic as it has unfortunately been misinterpreted and I plan to get into more details in the future.

Mobility
Mobility is very simple. Can your joints get into adequate positions to absorb and adapt to load? We go joint by joint: neck, spine, hips, shoulders, wrists, knees, ankles all the way down to the big toe. Yes, the big toe. It matters more than you think.

Symmetry
Symmetry asks one question across everything above: does your left side look similar to your right? This goes for ALL tests that are done unilaterally. We compare sides on strength, power, stability and mobility. Imbalances leak energy and invite injury, and most golfers have no idea how asymmetrical they are until they see it on a chart. Again another hot topic that is up for debate. We use hard data from multiple fields to address this topic.

The Full Series
Each of these charts got its own article. Here they are, in order.
- Power: Where Clubhead Speed Is Born
Three regions, force plate data, and the rotational test that needs it all. - Strength: The Engine Behind the Speed
The force behind the output, and why the same power number means different things. - Stability: Control When Things Change
Control in the presence of change, and the most misunderstood word in our field. - Mobility: Can You Get There?
Joint by joint, from the neck to the big toe. - Symmetry: Does Your Left Look Like Your Right?
One direction sport, two sided body, and what the difference costs.
Same body. Same logic as your golf stats. Chart by chart. No guessing or opinion.
